The black cats take their revenge. After centuries of persecutions and stupid superstitions, the black cats have been honoured of a day completely dedicated to them, November 17th of every year, a date completely different from February 17th, the World Day for all cats.
In the ancient Egypt, cat was a sacred and worshipped animal, but in the Middle Age cats were associated with the devil and by order of the Church they were killed. Black cats, in particular, were feared because considered fellows with witches and because of this they were put alive on the stakes.
This stupid superstition came till to our days and has never been eradicated, especially in Italy and Spain, where the black cat is still identified as being a jinx.
To the defense of these animals, that have nothing different than their white fur fellows, the Black Cat Day has been brought in with the aim to help people explode this myth that every year brings to the death of thousands of black cats in Italy, victims of the ignorance and the fear of people that never came out of their Middle Age.
