Second candle of Advent Waiting for Forgiveness by Joyful226

By lighting one candle each week of Advent, we help ourselves to get ready for the birth of Jesus. Last week we lit a candle that signified our waiting and Hope for God our Shepherd. This week's candle is for Peace truly the only way to obtain Peace is through Forgiveness. This Sunday we focus on the coming of Christ who brings forgiveness from our sins. We light this candle because, like God’s people centuries ago, we also need a Savior who will forgive our sins. The purple color reminds us of the seriousness of our sins, Christ's royalty and our great need for God’s forgiveness. Jeremiah 31:31-3 4 and also found in Hebrews 8:6 referring back to Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Christ's fulfillment of this scripture where God promises to make a new covenant with us, in which our sins will be forgiven and forgotten. PRAYER: Dear Jesus thank you for coming into our world so that the old covenant of rules was thrown away and the new covenant of your Love and forgiveness entered. Thank you that now rather than rules being written in stone your love and right living are written in our hearts and minds so that if we are yours we will want to do what is right and pleasing to you. Guide us dear Lord in your ways and help us also to Love those who are not always lovable and forgive those who hurt us and bring us Your Peace which passes all understanding.
