Good Friday by Joyful226
In this Good Friday image, I have used Dogwood branches which have a legend around them dealing with Good Friday here it is: According to the legend the dogwood was the size of the oak. Being firm and strong, it was chosen as the timber for the cross used to crucify Christ. According to the stories, the tree was distressed for being used for a cruel purpose, and Jesus being nailed to it sensed this and told the tree, “Because of your regret and pity for my suffering, never again shall the Dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. Henceforth it shall be slender and bent and twisted and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross, two long and two short petals. In the center of the outer edge of each petal, there will be nail prints, brown with rust and stained with red to show my suffering, In the middle of the flower will be a green crown signifying my crown of thorns, and all who see it will remember what happened.” With every spring when we see the dogwood blooms we are reminded of what God did for us and we are given the chance to be reborn and start a new life as “children of God”. (John 3:1)” .... I have also used the Easter lily. The lily is mentioned in the Bible in different parts. However, the Legend goes like this: Its importance rests even more clearly on a legend that the blood of Jesus, as it fell from the cross, was by a miracle transformed into flowers that filled heaven and earth. The popular Easter lily we use today to celebrate the holiday is referred to as ‘the white-robed apostles of hope.’ These beautiful trumpet-shaped white flowers The flower retells the resurrection story with its life cycle. These snow-white flowers symbolize new life and hope. Lily is the symbol of joy, hope, beauty and life The bulb of these flowers buried in the ground represents the tomb of Jesus and the glorious white trumpet-like fragrant flowers which grow from the bulbs symbolize His life after death. The snowy white color stands for the purity of the Divine Savior and the joy of the resurrection while the trumpet shape signifies Gabriel's trumpet call to rebirth and new life. The white lily is a symbol of purity. This traditional flower of Easter is highly regarded as a joyful symbol of beauty, hope and life.....In this scene where Jesus is on the Cross with the two thieves, I have also added the Tomb for him to be laid in after he is pronounced dead which belonged to Joseph from Arimathea. ...The Bible tells us from noon until three in the afternoon the sky turned dark and an earthquake shook the earth and the curtain in the temple that separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple tore from top to bottom signifying that the wall of separation between man and his creator was no more. Christ had paid the price for our sins (all our wrongdoings whatever they are, how small or how large whatever has kept us away from God) the curtain has been ripped from top to bottom never to stop us from coming to Him again. We have a direct line to Him through Jesus if we will only believe in Christ we are His! Scriptures are found in the 3 Gospels. Matthew tells not only of the darkening sky but also tell us that an earthquake shook the earth, and some interesting happenings. Mark and Luke tell of the sky darkening from noon until 3 in the afternoon all 3 Gospels tell of the tearing of the curtain. John does not give this account as John usually doesn't. He tells the story of Christ from a different viewpoint. All 4 tell of Joseph from Arimathea. It is in John where Jesus says to John about Jesus' mother Mary. John "behold your mother, Mother behold your son." In other words, John watch over Mom for me. Although rather than calling himself "John" He says "the disciple whom Jesus loved." John was the youngest of the disciples.
