Rex and Julia had been married for years. They loved each other very much but one thing was missing, no children. Oh how they wanted them. But they were not to be. After years of trying and nothing they had giving up on any children ever. …. Then the call came. Julia’s sister Augusta and her husband Vincent had been killed in a buggy accident. They were coming home from a party where there was much drinking going on, and Vincent had too much to drink. He was racing his horse hitting it hard with the whip. Augusta tried to stop him when the buggy hit a rock and the buggy rolled down a ravine throwing Augusta out and the horse rolled on top of her. Augusta’s husband Vincent was thrown out right away hitting his head on a sharp pointed rock he died instantly. The poor horse had no choice but to ride the buggy to where it stopped breaking his legs and had internal injuries as well as the bleeding from the whipping Vincent had given him. When some people past by they found the horrible accident and knew that Augusta and Vincent had two beautiful little girls and now had no parents. ….. Vincent and Augusta had lived in upper New York State when they died but there was no family around. Their neighbors took in the two beautiful little girls named Lillian and Sarah. The neighbors were well to do thus they hired a private investigator to find out if there were any relatives the girls had that they could find that would take them in and raise them…. It was then that Mr. John Morgan P.I. found Rex and Julia. The knock came on the door. Julia answered. Mr. Morgan greeted her and informed her of her sister and brother-in-laws passing and how it happened. He also told her about the kind neighbors that had taken in the girls and were searching for next of kin who might be willing to take care of the girls ages 5 and 6. ….. Julia was grief-strickend upon hearing the news that her sister was killed and her husband too. … Then she thought perhaps this was why they hadn’t had children of their own. Perhaps God knew that one day they would be needed to raise her sister’s children, somehow this thought gave Julia comfort she could do something for her sister. …… She looked up, wiping her eyes with her tatted laced edged handkerchief, and began to smile as she told Mr. Morgan she would be glad to raise the girls. …. It must be stated here that Julia and Augusta had lost track of each other when Augusta married Vincent. Augusta’s family was not happy with her choice of men. He was a gambling man and often drank. He was good at his trade and made a lot of money, still the family never could settle down because of his profession, they moved around so much. To make things worse, Vincent seemed to turn his back on the things that were important in life, like the Bible and Church and people. Augusta tried to raise the girls’ fine but it was not an easy task. …… Thus Julia didn’t even know she had these nieces. Now she was to have an instant family. She told Mr. Morgan to bring the girls as soon as possible. ….. Julia and Rex lived in a fine house in New York City. Rex was the President of his bank. Julia couldn’t wait to tell Rex that soon they would be parents. Rex was stunned at first and said to Julia about the girls..” they are half grown” ! He and Julia were both sadden at the loss of Julia’s sister and her husband because they were Julia’s family. You see Julia was younger than Augusta, and Augusta married young. Now she was gone. …. It had been a long day and Julia was tired filled with so much emotion. Thus she headed up the steps and looking back saw Rex standing in the music room door. Rex was imagining what the girls would look like playing at their piano. ….. Within the week the girls were deposited at their Aunt and Uncles house. They welcomed them with open arms. Augusta had achieved the impossible with Sarah and Lillian, Julia and Rex both thought, under the circumstances of her marriage. The girls were sweet well behaved and had a great love of the Lord. In addition the girls indeed did play the piano and on this night Rex stood at the door of the music room smiling at the girls playing a piano duet as their kitty laid on the chair, and Julia headed up the stairs, looking back and smiled with love in heart. And a bit of a feeling of deja vu…. Julia and Rex were now happy and content and the girls were happy too to be in a loving stable home where they were deeply loved.The girls are not only sisters but best friends too. Thanks to the loving caring family they now lived with. They did miss their parents and especially their wonderful mother. Then again, they were also very thankful for their new home where they grew strong in appreciation and love for their Lord and savior Jesus Christ who watched out for them in a time of tragic events, giving them wonderful new parents.
