Jonas- The Abbused

Jonas- The Abbused
HOW YOU MET: The first day of school. You'd never seen him before - apparently he'd moved to your town. Seeing as he was so quiet and withdrawn - totally opposite your personality - you decided to make him feel welcome. Secretly, you thought he was pretty darn good-looking as well. It wasn't long before you two became best buds. THE STORY: Everyday at school Jonas greeted you with a smile, his hair always hanging over one eye. Occasionally he would change which eye his hair hung over, but otherwise he was always the same. You never understood why people made fun of him simply because he was ''emo.'' He happened to be the coolest friend you ever had. One day, however, you began to notice things about him. Things like how he never wore short-sleeved shirts and how he would sometimes flinch when you hugged him. You wondered if these were new or if you'd just been too preoccupied by his looks and charming personality to notice them. You'd recently studied child abuse for a school project and Jonas curiously seemed to be showing the signs. After school when you two walked towards the park to hang out, the wind blew his hair out of his face and he jerked away - but not before you saw the black eye his bangs had covered. ''Jonas, how did you get that black eye?'' you asked. ''It's nothing,'' he mumbled, combing his hair back over his eye and not looking at you. Curiously you grabbed his arm and rolled his sleeve up. The cuts and bruises that covered his arm twisted your stomach. ''Jonas, I thought you said your father--'' ''My father is fine, alright? He hits me sometimes when he gets drunk, but that's the only time and I just need to learn to stay out of his way,'' Jonas interrupted you defensively. There was a block in your throat - you knew Jonas lived with his alcoholic father, but Jonas always said his father loved him and the alcohol wasn't a problem. ''Jonas, you need to tell someone about this,'' you tell him. ''If I tell anyone, he's gonna--....'' Jonas paused. ''Never mind, it would just mess my life up, okay? Promise me you aren't going to tell anyone. It's been going on forever, it doesn't even hurt that much anymore. Promise me you won't tell.'' You started to tell him you couldn't promise that, but his pleading blue eyes made you stop, and slowly you nodded. ''Thanks, I knew I could trust you,'' Jonas said. You stopped in front of his house and before he walked in, you grabbed his arm. ''Be careful, Jonas,'' you said. ''You don't have to worry about me,'' Jonas said, smiling and staring affectionately into your eyes before turning and entering his house. You walked to your house, ran up to your room, and began to cry. THE NEXT DAY: It startled you when Jonas didn't show up at school. You tried to convince yourself that perhaps he was sick or he just needed to miss a day, but when one of Jonas's nextdoor neighbors mentioned that she'd seen ambulances and police at Jonas's house about 2 in the morning, you knew his father had done something to him. With a lot of pressing (and a few phone calls from your parents), you managed to get out of school and drive up to the hospital. After asking for Jonas, the nurse showed his room and told you before you entered, ''He'll be alright, but he has suffered a skull fracture, two broken ribs, and a broken leg.'' You braced yourself for the sight and walked in. You had to bite your lip and look at the ceiling to hold back tears as you saw Jonas's broken and bruised body lying helplessly on the hospital bed. He was awake, but obviously in pain. ''Hey,'' his voice came out weak. ''Jonas--'' you started to say, unable to control the tears. ''You were right,'' Jonas interrupted. ''You were right. I should have told someone about my father before now. He saw you when we walked to my house yesterday and he suspected I told you something. He was really drunk and he got really mad and he...well, you can see what happened to me.'' ''How could someone do this to his own son?'' you whispered. ''I'm so sorry, I should've--'' Jonas started to say, but you interrupted him this time by kissing him gently on his lips (which fortunately weren't wounded). Jonas looked at you, surprised, but pleased. ''Everything's going to be alright now,'' you promised. ''Everything's gonna be alright.'' IN THE FUTURE: Jonas's father was arrested for child abuse and Jonas was sent to live in a foster home in the area until he turned 18. You dated him throughout high school, but he remained above all your best friend. When you both turned 20 years old, he proposed to you and you were married the next year. You had two children - a girl named Rhyssa and a boy named Hunter - and you two lived happily together until old age, when you drifted into eternal rest in each other's arms.
