clarice cliff inspired

Clarice Cliff was born on January 20th 1899 in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, she started work at the age of 13 in 'The Potteries' and then moved to the AJ Wilkinson's pottery factory in 1916. Clarice was given her own studio where she created her famous 'Bizarre' wares which she launched in 1927. She married her then boss, Colley Shorter, in 1940. The factory continued to produce pottery bearing Clarice's name until 1964. Following Colley Shorter's death Clarice sells the factory to Midwinter's on which point Clarice retires to Chetwynd House. The first Clarice Cliff exhibition takes place at Brighton in 1972 and Clarice provided comments for the catalogue. Clarice Cliff died suddenly at Chetwynd House on 23rd October 1972. Her art and pottery is still very much reveered and sort after today and can sell for extortinate amounts.
