Washington Crossing the Delaware River

George Washington's crossing of the icy Delaware River occurred on December 25, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. This was a surprise attack against the Hessian forces in Trenton, New Jersey. We are very proud of our Revolutionary War history in New Jersey. Washington's Crossing is now a State park here in New Jersey, about 38 miles (60 km) from my home. (I am not a native New Jerseyan, but have lived here most of my adult life. I grew up in the Los Angeles area).
