LEGEND OF THE SUN AND THE MOON....by Piedad

A legend tells us that, when the Sun and Moon were created, they loved each other with an immeasurable passion and depth, without measure, intensely. They were two free lovers, the fiery golden fire of one over the cold silvery warmth of the other ... When the Great God decided to separate, the Sun to illuminate the sky by day, the Moon to light it gently at night, their hearts, their souls, seemed to split in two. They were doomed to remain forever apart, trying to reach each other and never succeeding in an infinite, painful dance. The Sun tried to be strong, to pretend to be well, and got it, flashing strong, very strong, in the sky. The Moon, however, could not bear the sadness of being without her beloved, and melancholically shone in the sky. The Great God, pitying her, presented him with millions of stars, small pieces of light that tried to accompany her, to console her. But the moon longed for the sun's burning glow, her skin warm and golden, and the cold pallor of the stars distressed her even more. She knew herself, condemned to remain eternally seeking her love, unable to reach him ever, barely glimpsing him in the distance. The Great God returned to sympathize with those whom he had separated, and decided to grant them a few moments of happiness, with which they would have to survive forever: eclipses. Then, when the Moon disappears, hidden, when the Sun is covered with its snowy skin, they can live again, free, beloved, happy, for some glorious moments, to separate again, to break, painfully, in two again. Waiting, longing for the moment when they can become one again, together, free, beloved ............Cuenta una leyenda que, cuando el Sol y la Luna fueron creados, se amaban con una pasión y profundidad inconmensurables, sin medida, intensamente. Eran dos amantes libres, el ardiente fuego dorado de uno sobre la fría calidez plateada del otro… Cuando el Gran Dios decidió que habían de separarse, el Sol para iluminar el cielo de día, la Luna para alumbrarlo suavemente de noche, sus corazones, sus almas, parecieron partirse en dos. Estaban condenados a permanecer separados por siempre, tratando de alcanzarse y nunca lográndolo, en una danza infinita, dolorosa. El Sol trató de ser fuerte, de fingir estar bien, y lo consiguió, destellando fuerte, muy fuerte, en el firmamento. La Luna, sin embargo, no podía soportar la tristeza de estar sin su amado, y melancólicamente brillaba en el cielo. El Gran Dios, compadeciéndose de ella, le obsequió con millones de estrellas, pequeños pedazos de luz que trataban de acompañarla, de consolarla. Pero la Luna añoraba el fulgor ardiente del Sol, su piel cálida y dorada, y la fría palidez de las estrellas la afligía aún más. Se sabía sola, condenada a permanecer eternamente buscando a su amor, sin poder alcanzarlo jamás, apenas vislumbrándolo en la distancia. El Gran Dios volvió a compadecerse de aquellos a los que había separado, y decidió concederles unos instantes de felicidad, con los que habrían de sobrevivir por siempre: los eclipses. Entonces, cuando la Luna desaparece, escondida, cuando el Sol se cubre de su nívea piel, pueden vivir de nuevo, libres, amados, felices, por unos gloriosos momentos, hasta volver a separarse, a romperse, dolorosamente, en dos de nuevo. Esperando, anhelando el momento en que puedan volver a ser uno, juntos, libres, amados.....
